Crop Background and Variety Selection

Select orange, mandarin, lemon, lime or grapefruit cultivars for fresh or processing markets and pair them with suitable rootstocks for cold, salinity, disease and tree-size conditions. Use only certified disease-free nursery trees and follow local quarantine requirements for HLB, canker and other regulated risks.

Soil Preparation and Planting

Before planting, test soil and irrigation water for pH, EC, Na, chloride, boron and nutrients. Use deep, well-drained sites and prevent crown wetness; berm new trees where needed, zone drip irrigation by tree age and soil texture, and keep mulch away from trunks.

Nutrient Management

Split N and K from leaf and soil tests. Around bloom and young fruit, monitor Ca, Mg, B, Zn and Fe while avoiding excess N that drives soft growth and rind problems. Humic acid supports root-zone and salinity-risk management; diagnose iron chlorosis before using EDDHA Iron or another chelated iron.

Irrigation Recommendations

Adjust drip or micro-sprinkler irrigation by evapotranspiration, soil moisture and tree age. Keep roots moist but never waterlogged. Citrus is salt sensitive, so monitor water quality and root-zone EC, leach only where drainage allows, and avoid wetting trunks directly.

Pest and Disease Management

Monitor psyllids, leafminers, scales, mites, fruit flies, Phytophthora root rot and local quarantine pests. Clean nursery trees, sanitation, trapping, natural enemies, canopy airflow and locally registered biological or conventional tools belong in IPM; never move suspect propagation material.

Harvest and Post-Harvest Handling

Harvest by cultivar, market distance, soluble solids, acidity and rind color. Prevent compression, punctures and wet fruit in packing; precool promptly, then wash, grade, pack and maintain the required cold chain.
